Types of Hosting
Virtual Hosting (Shared Hosting)
In most cases you will be using virtual hosting.
Virtual hosting allows you to place your web site in a secure environment
on a server that holds multiple sites. This works great for most small
businesses and personal web sites, but would not provide the functionality,
bandwidth or security required for large e-commerce sites.
Co-location Hosting
An ISP provides a network connection and a
physical space to put a server. They provide a locker and
high-speed, guaranteed bandwidth, local area network connection.
The site owner supplies the personnel to manage the web site
software. It is a popular choice for technology companies.
Managed Hosting
At this level of service the ISP will provide
the hardware, software and administration services, but not
the individual application levels. Managed hosts usually
provide a high level of customer service and feedback. It
is a popular choice for companies with personnel that are
always on hand to trouble shoot and keep the site functioning.Good
for sites that are mission critical but do not have extensive
technology resources.
Development Hosting
Managed hosting with full application support.
